One week after AC/DC's Black Ice Tour in Paris, I've had yet another musical rendez-vous: Hellfest Open Air 2009 (momentarily closed as of writing), a music festival held about 30 kms from where I currently live. I've seen live on stage:

  • Nashville Pussy
  • Buckcherry
  • Voivod
  • WASP
  • Down
  • Anthrax
  • Heaven & Hell
  • Motley Crue
  • Pain
  • The Misfits
  • Machine Head
  • Dragonforce
  • Queensryche
  • Napalm Death
  • Europe
  • Suicidal Tendencies
  • Dream Theater

… from a grand total of more than 100 bands playing during this 3 day festival.

There have been some memorable moments. WASP's performance was unexpectedly awesome (best show of the first day I'd say), Dragonforce was really great and pretty hilarious. The funniest moment has to be when Europe finally started their Final Countdown which launched a real riot (people where singingyelling this tune intro between every song, obviously waiting for it and not caring about other songs).

The (my) highlight of this festival and the real reason for my being there was, obviously, Suicidal Tendencies, as hysterical as expected, with hordes of fan invading the stage at the end of Pledge Your Allegiance. I was at the very first fucking row kids, what a show it's been!

All in all, my first festival has been one of the most entertaining week-end of my life. The overall organization was flawless and the atmosphere was surprisingly friendly and peaceful (I mean, when you run into a pierced hairy scary metal dude, the first time you have to get a little sweat:)

Definitely looking forward to attending 2010 edition. HELL YEAH!

Anthrax is absolutely great. I'm glad they are not splitted yet and make still perfect metall music. \m/
